Make tracks to Riverbanks for one wild 5K race that benefits wildlife conservation! This year’s event will have both on-site and virtual options. Proceeds support ongoing conservation and education efforts at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden.

Event Registration

Riverbanks Run will wind through the park’s scenic back roads, cross the Saluda River, and pass some of the most popular exhibits in the Zoo! The 5K starts promptly at 7:15am with staggered starts. The event will be held rain or shine.

Wear your event T-shirt, lace up your shoes, and walk or run in your favorite place. Post a photo of your walk or run on social media using the hashtag #RiverbanksRun.

  • Registration:

    Monday, March 15 – Thursday, April 29 at 5:00pm

    (Advance registration only. There will be no day-of registration.)

    On-site Fee: $35 Riverbanks members; $45 general public.

    Virtual Fee: $30.

    Includes a commemorative Riverbanks Run T-shirt*, drink ticket**, chip timing, and award eligibility.

  • On-Site Location:

    500 Wildlife Parkway, Columbia, SC 29210

  • Health and Safety Precautions:

    Masks are required for this event. Participants may remove their mask while walking or running but are required to wear it until they are positioned at the start. We respectfully request that you put your mask on after the completion of your walk/run once you have cooled down to normal breathing. Also, please adhere to the CDC (Center for Disease Control) social distancing guidelines and remain 6 feet apart (at a minimum) from other participants you pass on the route and while you are in the cool down area. Staggered starts will be enforced to maintain physical distance from other participants.

  • Post-Race Ceremony:

    There will be no race day awards or post-race concessions. Water will be available. Race results will be available online to all participants after race completion at www.strictlyrunning.com. Winners may pick up awards at Strictly Running (2515 Devine Street) by May 9 during store hours.

  • Virtual Results:

    To compare results to other virtual racers, submit your time by May 9.

    Virtual racers are not eligible for an award. Virtual race results will be available online to all participants on May 10 at www.strictlyrunning.com.

  • Packet Pick-Up:

    Thursday, April 29 and Friday, April 30 from 11:00am–6:00pm at Strictly Running (2515 Devine Street).

    Please download a waiver, print and sign, and turn it in at Packet Pick-up. Strictly Running will also have printed waivers available.

  • Where and when do I pick up my race packet?

    Packet includes T-shirt*, drink ticket**, race bib (for on-site registrants), and other information that will be useful in advance of the race. Packet Pick-up is scheduled for Thursday, April 29 and Friday, April 30 from 11:00am–6:00pm at Strictly Running (2515 Devine Street). If needed, you may send a friend or family member to pick up your packet. *T-shirt not included with registrations submitted after April 18. **Valid May 1 – 9 for 1 complimentary beverage of choice (alcoholic or non).   • Where should I park?

    Parking will be at the main Zoo entrance only (500 Wildlife Parkway). Follow the signs.

  • What time should I arrive on race day?

    Participants should arrive no later than 6:45am to allow adequate time for parking and positioning yourself at the start line.

  • Are strollers permitted?

    Strollers are permitted at the back of the 5K race.

  • Are spectators allowed?

    Considering the racecourse, spectators will not be allowed inside the Zoo. Spectators may cheer on racers from the parking lot where the start line and finish line are located.

    A medal will be awarded to the following on-site racers: top 3 male and female overall; first male and female master (40+); top 3 male and female in each age group. Race results will be available online to all participants after race completion at www.strictlyrunning.com. On-site winners may pick up awards at Strictly Running (2515 Devine Street) by May 9, 2021 during store hours. Virtual racers are not eligible for an award.

  • What is the weather policy?

    This event will be held rain or shine.

  • What are the refund and transfer policies?

    Registration fees are non-refundable. If you are unable to attend, you may transfer your registration to another racer by contacting cgarnett@riverbanks.org by Tuesday, April 27. T-shirt is not guaranteed for transferred registrations after April 18.
