Save on Zoo Admission during Toucan Tuesdays

For Immediate Release: May 29, 2018

Annual Food Drive Benefitting Harvest Hope Food Bank Begins in June

[Columbia, SC] — Visit Riverbanks Zoo and Garden on a Tuesday this summer, bring two cans of food and help take a bite out of hunger in the Midlands. Guests will receive pay-one-price admission to the park with a donation of two cans of food to Harvest Hope Food Bank when Toucan Tuesdays kick off June 12.

Last summer, the generosity of Zoo guests yielded nearly 4,500 pounds of food for struggling families in the Midlands and has generated nearly 36,000 pounds of food since the partnership began in 2010.

“We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful community partner in Riverbanks Zoo and Garden,” said Laura Reid, Director of Donor Relations at Harvest Hope Food Bank. “Summer is such a critical time at the food bank when we typically see a 40% increase in demand.”

Discount admission isn’t the only perk guests will enjoy for contributing on a Toucan Tuesday. Individuals who donate also are eligible to receive one $2 ICEE (16oz.), one $2 fountain drink (24oz.), plus a 2-for-$20 special on misting fans sold at various locations throughout the park (special wristbands to show proof of donation will be provided; limit one wristband per donor).

Guests can take advantage of one Toucan Tuesday or all ten, June 12 – August 14. Donation bins will be located at both the Zoo and Garden entrances.

The promotion applies to general admission rates only (purchase one admission and get the second for equal or lesser value free; Explorer wristbands and Riverbanks’ memberships are not included).
