Summer Zoo Camp Offers Wild Escape for Budding Imaginations

For Immediate Release: March 12, 2018

[Columbia, SC] — Young explorers will connect with wildlife and journey to wild places when Summer Zoo Camp heats up at Riverbanks beginning Monday, June 11.

Summer camp is sponsored by Colonial Life and Accident Insurance Company and offers 10 one-week sessions for kids ages 3 to 13. Two different topics apply to each age group:

  • Garden Friends and Shapes of Nature: ages 3 and 4 (with an adult)
  • Fur, Feather, Shells and Scales and Dino-mite: ages 4 and 5 (half and full day options)
  • Web of Life and Fight or Flight: ages 6 and 7
  • Beastly Bling and Yuckology: ages 8 to 10
  • Nature's Apprentice and Zoos Top Chef: ages 11 to 13

Riverbanks’ Colonial Life Discovery Center is home to the Zoo’s education division where programs and special events reach more than 200,000 school-aged children each year.

For Colonial Life Community Relations Manager Marie McGehee, inspiring children to make impactful connections with nature and become advocates for conservation is an important role the company plays as a strong corporate citizen.

“Educating today’s children on the impact each of us has on the natural world around us is vital for building tomorrow’s engaged leaders,” McGehee said. “Colonial Life and our employees enjoy partnering with the Zoo through giving and volunteering during the great educational programs and special events.”

Summer Zoo Camp will take place June 11 – August 17. Times and prices vary. Enroll before this Thursday, March 15 and receive 15% off registration (discounts also apply the week of July 4) with coupon code zoocamp2018.
