Koala Phascolarctos cinereus

Vulnerable

Koalas are not bears but marsupials. Marsupials are mammals that carry their young in their pouch while they develop. Koalas are born blind, deaf, and as small as a jellybean! After being born, baby koalas, or joeys, have to crawl into their mother’s pouches, where they’ll stay for around 6 months. Eventually when its too big to stay in the pouch, it will ride around on its’ mother’s back and begin eating eucalyptus.

Diet:
Koalas eat eucalyptus leaves, and only eucalyptus leaves. These leaves are toxic to all other species of animals. Koalas are picky, as well! They’ll only eat the freshest, greenest leaves on a eucalyptus tree.
Habitat:
Eucalyptus forests of Australia.
