Sensory-Friendly Day Returns to Riverbanks Zoo and Garden

Columbia, SC, March 5, 2026 — Riverbanks Zoo and Garden’s will host a Sensory-Friendly Day on Tuesday, March 10, creating a calmer, more accessible environment for guests with sensory sensitivities. The event is designed in collaboration with several community partners to ensure 
that all individuals, especially those with sensory sensitivities, feel safe, supported, and empowered to participate fully in Riverbanks’ mission of conservation and connection.

Sensory-Friendly Day is part of Riverbanks’ ongoing commitment to making Zoo experiences welcoming and inclusive for all guests.

What Guests Can Expect:

  • Partner organizations in the main plaza from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • Reduced music volume throughout the park
  • Visual guides and clear signage for easy navigation
  • Sensory bags and communication support
  • Staff trained in sensory awareness
