Take Action for Wildlife. Be a Riverbanks ZooTeen.

For Immediate Release: April 8, 2022

Applications Now Being Accepted

[Columbia, SC] — Riverbanks Zoo and Garden is now accepting applications for Riverbanks’ ZooTeen ambassador program. Interested high school students ages 14 and up may apply online through May 15.

Space is limited for the year-long youth development program that connects teens with nature and inspires conservation action while developing job-readiness and life skills. ZooTeens have the opportunity to assist with Zoo camps and other educational programming, engage with and educate Zoo guests about wildlife and environmental conservation, plus participate in conservation field work and teambuilding.

Current ZooTeens will be in the park on Saturday, April 23 as part of Riverbanks’ Earth Day celebration. Activities will take place throughout the day highlighting 22 simple, everyday actions for the earth and encouraging guests to help protect our planet.

Guests also will have an opportunity to visit with members of Riverbanks’ chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers who will be promoting pollinators through milkweed seed sales. Milkweeds are a type of flowering perennial that are vital to the reproduction of monarch butterflies. Zoo keepers will be selling milkweed seeds outside the Discovery Center near Koala Knockabout.

ZooTeens will serve one calendar year from September 2022 – August 2023 and must complete a minimum of 80 hours of service. Visit Riverbanks online today for additional information about the program, requirements, and registration.
