For Immediate Release: March 16, 2021

On-Site and Virtual Registration Now Open for Zoo's Annual 5K

[Columbia, SC] — Riverbanks Zoo and Garden invites runners and walkers to take strides for wildlife conservation during the 6th annual Riverbanks Run — presented by Dominion Energy — on Saturday, May 1. On-site and virtual registration is now open for the 5K event.

Riverbanks Run will start at 7:15am. The route will wind through the park’s back roads, cross the Saluda River, and pass some of the Zoo’s most popular animal habitats.

To set the pace for safety amid COVID-19, all on-site participants will be required to wear face masks while not on the course. Runners and walkers also should adhere to the CDC social distancing guidelines, and staggered starts will allow participants to maintain physical distance from one another. Riverbanks’ staff and run volunteers will be required to wear masks at all times; hand sanitizer also will be available at various locations around the Zoo.

Riverbanks Run will take place rain or shine. Participants must register in advance online. Registration is open until Thursday, April 29 at 5:00pm. The cost for the on-site event is $35 for Riverbanks members and $45 for the general public. Virtual registration is $30. All proceeds support ongoing wildlife conservation and education efforts at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden.
