Riverbanks Facts

Description: Riverbanks Zoo and Garden offers a world-class recreational and educational experience for the entire family. More than 2,000 animals reside in natural habitat exhibits featuring psychological barriers such as moats, water and light that create an environment free of bars and cages. Riverbanks’ 70-acre Botanical Garden features scenic views of the Saluda River, wooded trails, historic ruins, Waterfall Junction children's garden and a spectacular walled garden.
Attendance: Riverbanks welcomes one-million guests annually.
Location: Zoo — 500 Wildlife Parkway — just off I-126 at Greystone Boulevard in Columbia. Botanical Garden — 1300 Botanical Parkway — off Highway 378 in West Columbia.
Hours: Open daily except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. The gates are open from 9:00am – 5:00pm daily.
Admission: $19.95 for adults, $16.95 for children ages 2–12. Military and Senior rates: $17.95.
Group Rates & Education: Reduced rates are available for organized groups of 15 or more paying individuals who register at least two weeks in advance. Group rates: $16.50 adults, $13.50 ages 2–12. The Education Department offers programs for all ages.
Timed Presentations: Sea Lion Demonstration: 10:30am and 2:30pm; Penguin Presentation: 11:30am and 3:30pm; Aquarium Dive in the Aquarium-Reptile Complex: 12:30pm; Gorilla Feeding: 1:30pm; and Wildlife Up-Close: 2:00pm.
Visitor Services: Riverbanks features an indoor, air-conditioned restaurant, a pizza and sandwich restaurant and several other food and refreshment stands. Strollers and a limited number of wheelchairs are available for rent. Free tram rides run every 10 to 15 minutes to transport guests between the Zoo and Botanical Garden. The Sky-High Safari vertical ropes challenge costs $7 per person, $5 for Riverbanks members and $3 for wristband holders. Experience the latest thrill at Riverbanks: Zip the Zoo or ZOOm the River on the all-new canopy zip line tours. Prices range from $40 to $80 and reservations are required. A free picnic area is located at the west end of the park. Riverbanks’ gift shops offer unique souvenirs for all ages.
