Kangaroos’ huge feet can be used in many ways. The main one is for movement. Kangaroos move by hopping, pushing off the ground with both legs. This type of movement is called saltation. Some kangaroos can move at over 20 miles per hour! Kangaroos can also thump their feet on the ground to warn other kangaroos about danger.
- Red kangaroos are grazers, eating grasses, shrubs, and other ground plants.
- Deserts of inland Australia.

Penelope is a young kangaroo at Riverbanks. She’s being trained behaviors that will allow us to continue to monitor her health and administer the best care with as little stress as possible to her and our keepers.
