Riverbanks Zoo and Garden invites all Midlands area teachers, student teachers and their families to join us for an overnight safari, Friday June 25 - Saturday, June 26! This will be a unique opportunity for teachers to experience what it’s like to spend the night at the Zoo and learn all the great ways the Zoo can assist in their efforts to motivate students to get wild about the natural sciences. The safari begins at 7:00pm and continues until 9:00am. Our adventure will focus on amazing adaptations that animals have for survival.
The night will start with a guided tour of the Zoo by an education staff member and will include a behind-the-scenes tour, live animal encounters and a night hike. The teachers will also learn how to use the Zoo as a resource and will participate in one of our school programs to gather ideas for their own classrooms. An evening snack and continental breakfast are provided, but make sure you bring your own sleeping gear and a sense of adventure!
The cost will be $42 per participant and includes admission to the Zoo for the next day. While the gift shop will not be open during the program, we do have cool “I survived the night at Riverbanks Zoo” glow-in-the dark T-shirts for sale ($15 each).
To register, please call Gerilyn Kim at 803.779.8717 x1224. (**If we do not have the minimum number of participants registered by Wednesday, June 16, the safari will be cancelled and all money refunded to registrants.)
We hope you will join us at the Zoo, where we are wild about teachers and all you do for environmental education!
