Riverbanks Zoo and Garden Positions:
TRAM DRIVER:
Part-time (must be available Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday)

Duties: Under general supervision, operates multi-car tram along assigned routes to transport guests of the Zoo and Garden to and from central loading areas. Provides assistance to guests. Practices safe driving techniques to ensure the safety of passengers and pedestrians. Handles vehicle servicing as necessary. Maintains records and prepares reports as required. Must also be available to work evening events as needed. Reports to the Senior Public Safety Officer.

Requirements: High school graduate and a minimum of two years previous passenger transportation experience. Excellent customer service skills a must. Must possess or be eligible for a valid SC driver’s license.

COMMISSARY TECHNICIAN:
Temporary (Full-time (approximately 3 months))

Duties: Under general supervision, is responsible for the proper preparation and delivery of diets and feed for all animals in the collection by daily deadlines. Prepares diets in accordance with specifications that include precise weights, measures, ingredient size, and other critical preparation instructions. Assures acceptable condition of produce and feed inventories and rotates stock. Unloads supplies, cleans and sanitizes diet preparation and storage areas. Prepares and maintains written records. Provides assistance and information to veterinary and keeper staff as needed. Obtains supplies and runs errands as needed. Reports to the Senior Technician and the Commissary Supervisor.

Requirements: High School graduate or GED; Associates Degree in a related field of study preferred, with a minimum of one year general work experience, preferably in a food service or other quality-driven service environment, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Must be at least 18 years old. Must be able to manage detailed assignments in a fast-paced work environment. Must be available to work Saturday through Wednesday, 7:15am to 4:00pm. Must possess a valid SC driver’s license.

LORIKEET AVIARY ATTENDANT:
Part-time (Must be flexible and available weekends)

Duties: Under general supervision, operates and monitors the lorikeet aviary exhibit, which is a hands-on walk-thru experience for guests of all ages. Interacts with guests to prepare them for the experience and to educate them on the nature and habits of the birds. Must ensure that guests and lorikeets alike are kept safe. Cleans the exhibit and feeds birds. Monitors and reports bird behavior. Reports to the Director of Guest Services and Senior Cashier. Also works closely with the Bird Department.

Requirements: High school diploma and 6 months solid work experience. Must have good presentation and communication skills, be comfortable presenting to a wide variety of audiences, have knowledge of (or at least interest in) parrots, have good observational skills, experience with animal husbandry a plus, and must be able to work in all weather conditions (heat/cold/rain).

PONY RIDE ATTENDANT:
Part-time (must be available weekends)

Duties: Under general supervision, operates and monitors the pony ride exhibit at the Riverbanks Farm by leading ponies around the outdoor track while interacting with young riders. Must ensure that children and ponies alike are kept safe, and that children get an appropriate educational message from the experience. Is responsible for the care and husbandry of the ponies including feeding, grooming, cleaning the holding and exhibit areas, and record keeping. Reports to the Senior Keeper and Director of Guest Services.

Requirements: High school diploma and 6 months work experience with ponies, horses or other large farm animals. Must have a good rapport with young children and enjoy interacting with them and their parents. Must have good presentation and communication skills. Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, be able to lift 50lbs, and be able to walk long distances repetitively.

EDUCATION PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR:
Part-time (Seasonal – class schedule varies, classes are offered Mon-Fri from 9:15am-1:45pm)

Duties: Facilitate education programs for groups of children of various ages. Supervise children while leading them through various inquiry-based classroom and hands-on activities. Implement curriculums and lesson plans that are written in accordance with national and state education standards. Interact with school teachers, chaperones, parents and members of the Education team. Conduct program evaluations and respond to feedback. May also facilitate overnight programs if desired. Reports the Director of Conservation Education.

Requirements: Must be enrolled in or be a graduate of a Bachelors program in Education or Science Education with some teaching experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Must have a strong base knowledge of science as it relates to animals and plants. Must be comfortable handling animals (small mammals, reptiles, and birds) and animal artifacts. Must be CPR/First Aid certified. Must demonstrate enthusiasm and a commitment to high quality programming and care of our customers.

ARAMARK Positions:
HOUSEKEEPER - EVENINGS:

Must show good attention to detail, be able to follow directions, and be able to work independently and be a team player. Must be able to read labels and operate vacuum cleaners, mop and buckets, brooms, and use cleaning chemicals as directed. Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to drive a golf cart safely. Must be able to work outdoors in all kinds of weather and must be able to be on feet entire shift. Must work in a courteous manner and interact professionally with zoo staff and visitors. Must be able to use proper judgment and be customer service oriented. ARAMARK is Riverbanks’ partner in providing food/beverage, retail, housekeeping, and grounds keeping services.
