Field Trips

Each year, more than 100,000 school children make a visit to Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. This page is a collection of information and suggestions to help make your field trip both exciting and educational.

Maximize Your Experience! Follow these 3 easy steps.

Step 1:

If you would like to include an education program with your field trip, be sure to do this step first to ensure availability! Otherwise, please skip to Step 2.

Step 2:
Consider Jungle Meals for an Organized, On-site Lunch

Available during weekdays only, Jungle Meals are served at Safari Camp in the heart of the Zoo. Your group will have a reserved space under this covered pavilion, equipped with picnic tables and plenty of shade. Call our Jungle Meals Coordinator at 803.602.0003 for available dates and times. Final meal counts for adults and children will be due 48 hours in advance.

Step 3:
Obtain Your Group Admission Tickets

Pay in Advance
Credit card required. Pay-in-advance group rate: $11 adults, $9 children ages 2–12.


Pay at the Gate
Reservation required at least two weeks in advance for best rate. Make a reservation. Walk-up rate: $11.75 adults, $9.25 children ages 2–12.

Customized Teacher Workshops

Teacher workshops are a great way to enhance classroom lessons with Riverbanks resources. Each hands-on workshop will arm you with effective methods of active science instruction, both at the Zoo and in your home classroom. Experience using the Zoo as an educational resource through customized training designed to meet your specific needs.

Days, times and lengths of workshops are arranged to fit with your teaching schedule. Workshops are a half day (up to 3 hours) and can be arranged any afternoon, Monday - Friday.

  • Group Size: Minimum number of participants per session is 15; maximum is 30.
