Riverbanks Hosts 6th Annual Dreamnight at the Zoo
[Columbia, SC] - On Friday, June 4, 2010, from 6 to 8:30pm, Riverbanks Zoo and Garden will transform into an island oasis for the sixth annual Dreamnight at the Zoo, an invitation-only event for chronically ill and disabled children that are patients of Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital (PHCH).

Scheduled animal presentations will take place throughout the evening, including a gorilla food toss, penguin feeding and an aquarium dive where guests can ask the diver questions about all the fish in the tank.

In addition to seeing the animals at the Zoo, children and their families can participate in these fun events:

ę      Splash in the foamy surf at Dreamnight Bay (Tram Stop)

ę      Dig in at the Riverbanks Beach Resort (Carousel Plaza)

ę      Compete in “Games of Skill & Daring” (Ape Island)

ę      Learn to hula dance (Ndoki Plaza)

ę      Get an exotic face painting (Palmetto Plaza)

ę      Play beach volleyball (Safari Camp)

ę      Pet a pony, feed a goat and make a seashell necklace (Farm)

ę      Sip a tropical ICEE delight (Palmetto Plaza)

ę      Sign your name on the Children’s Hospital mural (ARC)

ę      Watch the Dreamnight Players perform FOLK TAILS at 6:30pm & 7:30pm (Palmetto Plaza Stage)

ę      The Big Kahuna Dance Party - 8:00pm (Palmetto Plaza)

A complimentary picnic buffet will be provided by ARAMARK; and on their way out, kids will receive a special gift.

Dreamnight takes place annually worldwide on the first Friday evening in June. Thirty-nine zoos in the United States along with 217 zoos from other countries will participate in the event this evening. For a complete list of all participating zoos, please visit www.dreamnightatthezoo.nl.

Dreamnight is an invitation-only event. During Dreamnight at the Zoo, the park remains closed to the public and Dreamnight families are admitted free of charge. Children who have been treated at PHCH are invited by physicians and staff to Dreamnight. Each child is allowed up to five tickets to invite his or her family or care giver. In many cases, these children are accompanied by the nurses and doctors who work with them on a day-to-day basis.

Please note: The event will take place rain or shine.
