| More Than 70 Varieties Offered |
|
[Columbia, SC] - Riverbanks Botanical Garden will host its annual Plant Sale this Saturday, April 17, from 9am to noon. Shoppers can select from more than 70 varieties of plants including annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees and bulbs. With more than 5,000 plants available, gardeners can choose from a vibrant mixture of tried and true favorites and first-time offerings. New this year is Bletilla striata, a hardy terrestrial orchid that will return each spring with a wealth of lavender blooms. Another new addition is the never-before-offered Colocasia gigantea, a strain of elephant ear from Thailand with behemoth leaves that can grow up to 5 feet tall and 4 feet wide. Most plants will range from $5 to $10 with all proceeds directly benefiting Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. Admission to the Plant Sale is free for those that arrive at the Garden’s Growing Center located at 1201 Seminole Drive in West Columbia. If you have your heart set on a particular plant, be sure to arrive early for the best selection. Another tip: bring a wagon or cart to help haul your favorite picks.
