[Columbia, SC] - Get motivated for a successful gardening season at the Springtime at the Garden Festival at Riverbanks Botanical Garden on Saturday, March 21. From 9am to 4pm, Garden-goers can learn new skills during timed demonstrations, consult the experts on how to keep their backyards in bloom, shop for plants, tools and garden art at more than 30 vendor stations and listen to live music from local bluegrass band, Woodwork Roadshow. “This event is not just for those with a green thumb,” said Amanda Segura, garden education coordinator at Riverbanks Botanical Garden. “The goal of this event is to get people in the community excited about gardening by sharing tricks of the trade and helpful hints to make their experience with horticulture a positive one.” Interactive demonstrations being held throughout the day will cover topics such as gardening in small spaces, flower arranging and cooking with herbs. In addition, there will be how-to demonstrations for folks who have an artistic flair—crafting dream catchers for the garden, how to paint a pot and creating clay pot characters. Educational tables will provide information on everything from managing those pesky fire ants to maintaining your yard. Container and floral arrangements created by local florists and garden centers using only plants grown in the Great Zone 8 will be on display. And Clemson Extension will be available to answer questions at the home and garden information center. The festival offers something for everyone, even the kids in the family. Just-for-kids activities will include story time, the Jr. Master Gardener bird feeder project and an inflatable bounce house. Woodwork Roadshow will play two sets in the amphitheater, one from 11:30am – 1:00pm and another from 2:00pm to 3:30pm. This local bluegrass band recently released an album titled “In Bricks, In Bones.” The Springtime at the Garden Festival is free with paid admission to Riverbanks.
