[Columbia, SC] - Kids ages 6 – 10 can kick the cold weather goodbye and journey to the tropics in search of the world’s hottest creatures at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden’s Winter Camp. From December 29 – 31, campers will be in for a tropical treat as they learn about animals that are adapted to survive in the world’s warmest places. Winter Camp takes place during 3 fun-filled days jam-packed with hands-on activities, zoo tours, creature crafts and chances to get face-to-face with some pretty cool critters. “Riverbanks’ Winter Camp provides children with an exciting and educational experience and parents with an alternative to daycare while the kids are out on break,” said Heather Doggett, director of conservation education at Riverbanks. The Winter Camp program is designed and led by the same staff that oversees the Zoo’s summer and spring camp programs. The cost for camp is $110 for Riverbanks members and $140 for the general public. The camp runs from 9am to 3pm, with an extended stay and play option allowing children to remain at camp until 5:15pm for an additional $50. Children should bring their lunch, a snack and a filled water bottle to camp each day. Early drop-off begins at 8:20am each morning and dismissal begins at 3:00pm each afternoon. Registration for Winter Camp is required in advance. Space is limited and is reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration can be submitted online or by mail. For more information on the hottest camp around, visit www.riverbanks.org or call 803.779.8717 x1113.
