[Columbia, SC] — Riverbanks Zoo and Garden is pleased to announce a new chief operating officer—the first in the Zoo’s 37-year history.
Tommy Stringfellow, a 34-year veteran of the attractions industry, was recently named to the position after serving the last 9 years as Riverbanks’ director of marketing.
"In his time at Riverbanks, Tommy has advanced the business of the Zoo tremendously, and we are fortunate to have him now serve in this capacity,” said Satch Krantz, executive director of Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. "Tommy is especially skilled in marketing and guest relations, and evidence of his expertise can be seen throughout the Zoo and Garden.”
Under Stringfellow’s marketing direction, Riverbanks recently announced its third best fiscal year in attendance, exceeding more than one-million visitors and generating a 14.6% increase in revenue.
In his new role, Stringfellow will continue to oversee marketing and will also manage guest services, human resources, facilities and IT.
Prior to joining Riverbanks, Stringfellow directed the sales and marketing efforts at various theme parks including Six Flags Over Georgia, Six Flags Whitewater Water Park and American Adventures Family Entertainment Center and Six Flags Great Escape and Water Park in upstate New York.
Stringfellow remains an active member of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums and the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Marketing from Winthrop University.
