Facilities and Warehouse Coordinator

Duties: Under general supervision, maintains the facilities and general warehouse. Coordinates supply orders on vendor websites. Receives and inspects supply deliveries and delivers orders to departments per schedule. Makes daily mail run and transports packages for shipment; makes other pickups and deliveries as required.  Schedules contractor bid meetings for supervisor and enters PO’s for contracted work as needed.  Oversees the inventory management system for maintenance materials. Utilizes and operates various types of equipment such as a company vehicle, fork lift, computer, etc. Maintains SDS master list and ensures an SDS sheet is on site before product leaves the warehouse for delivery.  Packages and ships certain products requiring regulated disposal. May be assigned additional safety duties as schedule allows. Reports to the Supervisor of Facility Services and Warehouse/Director of Risk Management and Facilities.

Requirements:Must be at least 18 years of age with a HS diploma. Some college education is preferred. Warehouse experience and general safety training/education a plus.  Must have exceptional communication and organizational skills and be self-motivated. Maintains a high standard for service and good communication with co-workers, guests, and vendors. Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, lift up to 50lbs., and walk long distances repetitively. Must possess or be eligible for a valid SC driver’s license.

Assistant Coordinator of Education Programs

Duties: Under general supervision, the Assistant Coordinator of Education Programs is responsible for the coordination, development and instruction of a variety of programs offered by Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. The position will focus primarily on family programs, which include early childhood programs, free daily programs in the children’s garden, and family events. This position will also assist with maintaining the vegetable garden, youth garden programs, and adult workshops, as needed. Riverbanks seeks educators who are creative, energetic, flexible and passionate about environmental education. This position is both educational and customer service based. Reports to the Coordinator of Family and Garden Programs.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in an education or science related field. 2-3 years experience delivering and planning formal/informal education programs for a wide range of learners. Must have a background in both gardening and animal content. Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills. Must demonstrate enthusiasm for nature and science and creativity in developing programs that will inspire enthusiasm in others. Must be available to work at special events that may be on weekends and/or evenings. Must possess or be eligible for a valid SC state driver's license.

Education Program Instructor/Interpreter

Duties: Cross-trained to facilitate education programs for groups of children of various ages toddlers through college as well as conduct interpretive presentations throughout the park. Manage children and crowds of guests while leading them through engaging educational programming. Implement lessons and program scripts that are written in accordance to Riverbanks education standards. Interact with school teachers, chaperones, parents, families, general public, and members of the Education team. Conduct program evaluations and respond to feedback. Work under the direction of the Coordinator of Family and Outreach Programs, Coordinator of Interpretive Programs and the Coordinator of School Programs.

Requirements: Must be enrolled in or be a graduate of a Bachelors program in Education or Science related field with some teaching experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Must have a strong base knowledge of science as it relates to animals and plants. Must be comfortable handling animals (small mammals, reptiles, and birds) and animal artifacts. Must be CPR/First Aid certified. Must demonstrate enthusiasm and a commitment to high quality programming and care of our guests.

Assistant Retail Operations Manager

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:  Reports to the Retail Operations Manager, Assistant General Manager,  and General Manager.

WORK SCHEDULE:  Flexible, includes weekends, holidays, and night events throughout the year.  

WORK & BENEFIT STATUS:Full Time, hourly. Eligible for full benefits package, including Health, Dental, & Vision insurance, paid vacation, 401-K, life insurance, and disability.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Assistant Retail Operations Manager is responsible for partnering with the Retail Operations Manager to ensure the successful operation of the Gift Shop & other locations within the Riverbanks Zoo.  These responisbilities fall solely on the Assistant ROM when the ROM is not present. Training, Development, Recruiting, Hiring, and Coaching are essential duties in addition to all Merchandising and Retail responsibilities.  The AROM will be a role model for excellence in guest service and execute SSA and RBZ standards for Guest Experience at all times.  Maintaining and building strong relationship with our Client (RBZ) is critical to the operation and the roles of AROM.


  • Assists the Retail Operations Manager in managing the day to day operations of all retail and stock room locations at the Zoo and oversees operations during Retail Operations Manager’s absence.
  • Assists Retail Operations Manager in scheduling adequate staff according to labor budget guidelines while being responsible for constructing daily schedules to effectively operate the store.
  • Responsible for staff providing each zoo visitor uncompromised hospitality and quality service.
  • Leads the daily successful operation of all retail and stock locations at the Zoo. Leads and Manages the Supervisory Team, Administrators, & entire Associate staff in the day-to-day operation.
  • Accountable for all development and implementation of SSA customer services initiative and employee incentive programs
  • Directs the maintenance of all shops to be presented consistently in a clean, attractive, and highly marketable condition and coordinates with ROM, AGM, and/or GM in the repair and/or replacement of all fixtures and equipment.
  • Provides a solid relationship with all departments and builds client relations while maintaining business standards and expectations
  • Expected to be knowledgeable on Point-of-Sale software management in both front and back office settings as well as a working knowledge of maintenance and education of system operation management to entire staff.


  • Responsible for all inventory on Zoo premises
  • Responsible for evaluating and maintaining inventory levels in the stores in partnership with Supervisory, Associate, and Warehouse Teams
  • Coordinates with the Head Buyer and ROM to effectively merchandise and display product 
  • Directs management team in the handling of MOS, Damages, and Interdepartmental Purchases.
  • Overseas the completion of cycle counts as well as a bi-annual physical inventory.


  • Coordinates with ROM to execute detailed and thorough recruiting, interviewing, and following through of all required hiring procedures. Attends and participates in job fairs as well as other types of recruiting functions. 
  • Coordinates with ROM and SSA HR Department in execution of effective completion of all aspects of human resources including, but not limited to: employee counseling, evaluations, payroll functions, uniform management, time-keeping management, and attendance record keeping.  
  • Coordinates with ROM and SSA HR Department in assuring all hiring, promotion, and termination processes comply with applicable local, state, and federal laws.  Remains knowledgeable in all applicable safety regulations.
  • Assists ROM on instructing the proper training of all new hires. This includes a thorough review of all RBZ and SSA policies and procedures relating to their position.  Provides new hires with information regarding benefits, rate of pay, and other related information.
  • Coordinates with ROM in conducting customer service, sales, and product knowledge training sessions to assure that each employee is properly and thoroughly prepared to perform his/her duties.


  • Coordinates with GM, AGM, and ROM to set and exceed monthly and yearly sales goals.
  • Directs management team on daily, weekly, and period reporting according to the corporate policies and procedures as well as those of the branch. 
  • Coordinates with ROM and Admin Team to maintain a secure and safe cash room and adequate change fund for the preparation of banks and the providing of change to store personnel. 
  • Assists in the training and supervision of cash room personnel and documenting employee exceptions from established cash handling procedures
  • Coordinates with ROM on directing the new employee orientation regarding cash handling procedures.

  • Minimum of 3 (three) years management of multi-million dollar retail operation
  • Should have 4 (four) years or more total retail management experience
  • Experience in managing over 30 employees at one time is required
  • Must have retail point-of-sale operating system experience as well as other related computer experience such as Excel, Word, and Power Point
  • Store financial analysis and budget creation and review is required
  • Experience in providing customer service training classes
  • Hiring, training and staff development experience required
  • Must have flexible availability – seven days a week – early mornings and late nights are possible
  • Holiday’s, weekends, and other times will be required
  • Experience in working with all levels of management and clients

The Catering Operations Banquet and Event Servers report to the Catering Operations Manager and Assistant Manager. Position is part-time and include day, evening, and weekend hours. Duties and Responsibilities:
