Associate Veterinarian

Duties: Under limited supervision is responsible for diagnosing and treating illness and injuries and administering preventive medicine programs for Riverbanks Zoo’s animal collection. Exercises skill and responsibility in anesthesia, surgery, quarantine protocols, radiology, nutrition, parasite management, and necropsy. Manages medical records using MedArks program. Communicates effectively with animal care staff and works closely with hospital team. Reports to the Senior Veterinarian.

Requirements: Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from an accredited university, with at least one year of post-graduate training, at least two years of veterinary experience within a zoological institution; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Residency training preferred. Excellent communication skills, ability to react well in crisis situations, and a strong desire to promote and provide top quality animal care in a zoological setting. Must possess or be eligible for a valid SC State Veterinary license and driver's license.

Education Program Instructor

Duties: Facilitate education programs for groups of children of various ages preschool through college. Supervise children while leading them through various student-centered classroom and hands-on activities. Implement lesson plans that are written in accordance with national and state education standards. Interact with school teachers, chaperones, parents and members of the Education team. Conduct program evaluations and respond to feedback. May also facilitate overnight programs if desired. Reports to the Coordinator of School Programs.

Requirements: Must be enrolled in or be a graduate of a Bachelors program in Education or Science related field with some teaching experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Must have a strong base knowledge of science as it relates to animals and plants. Must be comfortable handling animals (small mammals, reptiles, and birds) and animal artifacts. Must be CPR/First Aid certified. Must demonstrate enthusiasm and a commitment to high quality programming and care of our guests.

Guest Services Representative

Duties: Under direct supervision, provides consistently high quality guest service to Riverbanks’ guests and Society members. Works in a variety of guest services locations throughout the park including admissions (ticket booth), carousel, giraffe feeding platform, lorikeet aviary booth, Ropes Course, etc. Handles purchase transactions and manages cash/tokens. Communicates with the public about Riverbanks exhibits, attractions, services, and policies. Reports to the Guest Services Manager and the Director of Guest Services.

Requirements: High school diploma and 4-6 months of work experience in customer service or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Cashier experience and strong customer services skills are required. Must be available week days and weekends.

Interpretive Educator

Maintenance Technician-HVAC

Duties: Under general supervision, is responsible for diagnosing, maintaining and repairing various heating, air conditioning and refrigeration devices and systems. Replaces or repairs various other industrial equipment, heat pumps, air conditioning units, electric strip heat, gas boilers, domestic refrigerators, water coolers, cold generators, window units, ventilation systems, chill water units, and life support systems for various animals, fish, and reptiles. Works as a member of the maintenance team on various projects, doing HVAC and general maintenance and construction tasks. Is responsible for on-call weekend duty on a rotating basis. Reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Requirements: High school graduate with vocational/technical school training in HVAC courses with three to five years of experience in troubleshooting, repairing and installing HVAC systems; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must be certified to purchase and recycle refrigerant gases. Must possess or be eligible for a valid SC driver's license.

Public Safety Officer

Duties: Under general supervision, maintains security of Riverbanks grounds, picnic area, and parking lots. Patrols and monitors gate entrances and exits. Provides security services during non-public hours for special events. Maintains good customer service and strives to achieve excellent public relations. Assists visitors by providing directions, locating missing persons, assisting stranded motorists, locating lost personal property, handling complaints or inquiries, providing first aid, etc. Prepares and maintains required reports. Controls keys and locks for all Riverbanks facilities and property. Must also be available to work evening and special events. Requirements: High school graduate with one to two years experience as a security officer; or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Veterinary Technician

Duties: Under general supervision, is responsible for providing assistance to the Senior and Associate Veterinarians and to provide support in the evaluation and treatment of animals.
