Parking Attendant

Duties: Under general supervision monitors Riverbanks parking lots and aids with traffic flow. Works to relieve traffic congestion, properly route deliveries and arrivals and maintain a clean, safe parking facility. Maintains good customer service and strives to provide our guests with a quality experience. May be cross-trained in other Guest Services positions such as ticket taker, Carousel Operator, Tram Driver, attendant, Dive Tender, etc. Reports to the Public Safety Manager.

Requirements: High school graduate with one to two years experience as a security officer; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid South Carolina driver's license.

Bird Keeper

Duties: Under general supervision, is responsible for the proper care of a taxonomically diverse collection within the Bird Department. Feeding and watering birds, cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining exhibits and some public areas, observing animals for illness, injury, and abnormal behavior. Working with veterinary staff to monitor and treat injuries and diseases. Monitoring animal behavior and welfare. Participate in avian capture and restraint. Participate in artificial incubation and hand-rearing. Prepare animal shipping crates and paperwork, participating in internal and external animal moves. Working with power tools to build and maintain exhibits. Maintaining detailed behavioral, reproductive, and medical records and reports. Interacting with Riverbanks guests, and speaking to the public in a variety of formal and informal educational settings. Gaining certification for and participating as member of Riverbanks dive team. Conducting behavioral enrichment and operant conditioning. Providing assistance and guidance volunteers assigned to the department. Serving as Mentor to Bird Department Interns. Works cooperatively with other departments including maintenance, horticulture, education, and events. Performs other duties as assigned. Reports to the Senior Bird Keeper and the Curator of Birds.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree required (in one of the Biological Sciences), and two to three years of experience working with animals, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Attractions Supervisor

Duties: The Attractions Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that Riverbanks’ attractions and guest services venues are ready for daily operation and are maintained to the highest standards for safety, cleanliness, and guest service. Acts as hands-on, front-line facilitator who is empowered to correct problems and handle guest concerns on the spot. Conducts routine inspections of all attractions, stocks supplies, trains staff, and reviews safety protocols. Acts as a role-model of outstanding guest service and works to support the guests services team so they, in turn, can provide our guests with the best possible experience. Reports to the Director of Guest Services and works closely with the Guest Services Manager.

Requirements: High school diploma required, college degree preferred. 2-5 years of guest service in the hospitality, amusement, or recreation industry. Great verbal communication and training skills. Some computer/technical ability helpful. Must be able to work on feet all day and in all weather conditions. Must be able to lift and carry 30 lbs. Must be outgoing and enthusiastic about Riverbanks’ mission and quest for outstanding guest service.

Pony Ride Attendant

Duties: Under general supervision, operates and monitors the pony ride exhibit at the Riverbanks Farm, by leading ponies around the outdoor track while interacting with young riders. Must ensure that children and ponies alike are kept safe, and that children get an appropriate educational message from the experience. Is responsible for the care and husbandry of the ponies including feeding, grooming, cleaning the holding and exhibit areas, and record keeping. Reports to the Attractions Supervisor.

Requirements: High school diploma and 6 months work experience with ponies, horses or other large farm animals. Must have a good rapport with young children and enjoy interacting with them and their parents. Must have good presentation and communication skills. Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, be able to lift 50lbs, and be able to walk long distances repetitively.

Procurement Manager

Salary: $44,000 - $50,000/yr

Duties: Develops bid documents for complex solicitations and requests for proposals (RFP) and places all required advertisements for solicitations. Conducts all bid meeting requirements from beginning to completion. Serves as chairperson of the purchasing committee to evaluate the RFP to determine the most responsive and responsible proposer meeting all required specifications, terms and conditions of the solicitation. Negotiates prices and terms. Makes contract awards and provides notification to bidders/proposers and provides contract administration until the completion of the contract. Works with staff in formulating specifications for equipment, materials, supplies, construction and services. Authorizes purchases of equipment, goods and services for Riverbanks by reviewing and approving purchase orders within the scope of the Procurement Policy. Contracts, manages and coordinates all capital construction, repairs, operational, professional and consulting services. Acts as liaison between departments, contractors and architects during construction process. Proposes procurement objectives, policies, programs and procedures for the purchase and acquisition of materials, supplies, equipment and services; develops with approval of Riverbanks’ attorney, standard forms including invitations to bid and request for proposals, purchase orders and contracts; designs forms required to carry out provisions of the procurement policy; strategic planning and continuity of operations (COI) updating current procurement policies and procedures for Commission approval as needed. Oversees receipt of goods and services and payment to vendor upon satisfying the terms, conditions and costs as outlined on the purchase order and any applicable contracts. Resolves discrepancies with vendors through written and verbal inquiries. Maintains auditable procurement records to include complete documentation of competitive bids and proposals, order histories, vendor files, etc; acts as Riverbanks’ representative on all matters pertaining to procurement. Reports to Chief Financial Officer.

Requirements: Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in business administration or related field with a minimum 3+ years of progressively responsible experience in governmental purchasing/procurement. Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB) designation desired, Certified Professional Public Officer (CPPO) desired. Must demonstrate great communication/relationship-building and written communication skills. Must be able to pass a criminal and credit background check. Must have or be eligible for a SC driver’s license.

Membership Services Assistant

Duties: Under general supervision, establishes, maintains and promotes excellence in member services through professional and courteous communication with Riverbanks members and potential members. Answers member and potential member inquiries via phone, mail and email using outstanding verbal and written communication, proactively calling new members to ensure their satisfaction with membership. Provides clerical and administrative support for membership and fund-raising programs maximizing the efficiency of membership office operations. Assists with fundraising events. Reports to Membership Manager.

Requirements: Prefer Associates degree with previous experience in customer service and/or membership services in a non-profit or zoo environment. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and a very high standard for service. Must be enthusiastic, a team player and possess thorough knowledge of current computer applications with above average typing skills. Must be able to handle multiple projects at one time. Must be available for evening events as needed. Attention to detail, prompt follow-through and accurate data entry skills are required. Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (including but not limited to proficiencies in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook), Centaman and/or Raisers Edge preferred.

Public Safety Officer

Duties: Under general supervision, maintains security of Riverbanks grounds, picnic area, and parking lots. Patrols and monitors gate entrances and exits. Provides security services during non-public hours for special events. Maintains good customer service and strives to achieve excellent public relations. Assists visitors by providing directions, locating missing persons, assisting stranded motorists, locating lost personal property, handling complaints or inquiries, providing first aid, etc. Prepares and maintains required reports. Controls keys and locks for all Riverbanks facilities and property. Must also be available to work evening and special events. Reports to the Senior Public Safety Officer and the Director of Guest Services.

Requirements: High school graduate with one to two years experience as a security officer; or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must demonstrate professionalism, customer service experience and strong communication skills. Must possess or be eligible for a valid South Carolina driver's license.

Zip Line Adventure Guide

Duties: Under general supervision, works with a team to operate the zip line attraction at Riverbanks. Works with Senior Zip Line Guides and management to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the course and consistent high quality service to all guests. Works with small groups of guests over an extended period of time to facilitate their positive experience. Demonstrates excellent guest service and communication skills. Is comfortable with heights and making judgment calls about guest participation.

Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age with a HS diploma and demonstration of responsible job experience. Some college education is preferred. Must have excellent communication and leadership skills. Safety training and adventure-base programming knowledge preferred. Must successfully complete paid on-site training and work an apprenticeship on Riverbanks’ zip line course in order to continue employment.
